What I call... panic cleaning.

Lately I've been working 40 hours a week, which has really thrown my routine off. Meaning, the house is kind of mess, laundry hasn't been done in.. a few weeks... and almost every surface has clutter on it.

Thus began the week of panic cleaning- we have visitors coming (Finnegans, if you read this, I'm so glad you're coming... this all needed to happen. Glad you could be the catalyst).  We also have a wedding on Sunday, and then visitors coming soon as well. So time to get caught up on things that have long needed completion.

There's immense satisfaction in completing projects in the home. Jason calls this nesting, and he might be right, but either way there's no place I love more here in Chicago than being in my apartment. Or maybe a sushi restaurant.

Project 1: building a new shelf in my hutch to hold my newly acquired china.
Jason and I frequent thrift shops, and one evening I happened upon an almost complete set of china for 12 settings that I was able to get for $40. A grand bargain. But I had no where to put it until yesterday..

I never thought I'd be the  girl who was thrilled to have  china.  I never thought I'd enjoy cleaning either, but this seems to be one of those things that when  it's yours- it's different. Kind of like  changing a baby's diapers . If it 's yours.. then it's different.

Cannot find the pattern for this one: have teacups, saucers, a few plates and 2 platters.

Amcrest Autumn Breeze: Main set

It's not the most exciting thing in the scope of the world... but it means a lot to me to have nice things to host people and to serve tea in, something I'm very much looking forward to.

  1. Nice! We got one five piece set of china for a wedding present... and so now we are ... trying to plan and save to acquire more. Those are gorgeous though!

  2. Yeah, we registered for china but didn't get any- fine with me though! Not spending probably close to a grand on dishes is a nice thing. Thrift stores have become one of Jason's largest hobbies. What does yours look like? We still haven't gotten around to sending you your wedding present- I am so sorry...
